What to Expect as a First Time Home Buyer: Part Two
As a first time home buyer, one of the most stressful parts is the offer and subsequent negotiations. A good real estate agent can help walk you through the process, but below you’ll find details that can increase your understanding too.
More Steps in Buying Your First Home
- Get a home inspection and secure financing – once your offer is accepted, you have a set number of days to have these things done. Of course, this is only if the inspection and financing were conditions on your offer. Essentially, this gives you the opportunity to make sure that you are willing and able to purchase the home.
- Review the inspection results – if there are any issues noted on the home inspection report, you can choose to ask the sellers to fix them. Or, you can simply accept them. If you choose to do the former, the seller may agree or reject your request. If it is rejected, you may choose to walk away or proceed with the sale.
- Get ready to close – the closing date is the day you get the keys to your new home. You will sign the paperwork on or before this date.
- Move in! – once you get the keys the house is all yours! Look around thoroughly to ensure it is in the same condition it was (beyond normal wear and tear) when you placed your offer.
- Enjoy your new home!
